Skin Care Tips for Baby
Although a baby's skin is supposed to be "perfect", it can also be very sensitive and easily irritated. If you are concerned about your baby's skin, here are some helpful hints:
- Keep your baby's skin well moisturised. Try to use soap-free cleansers, and baby bath oils, followed by a gentle moisturiser. This will help prevent dry skin and painful chafing. Use a dermatologically tested detergent with no dyes and perfumes such as Omo Sensitive for washing your baby's clothes.
- Be careful to avoid leaving any soap or foam on the skin after a bath. Wipe off any excess soap with a flannel just before taking your baby out of the bath
- Avoid highly perfumed products
- Do not put nylon or woollen clothing next to your baby's skin
- Be on the look out for itchy materials, over-exposure to sun or wind, extremes of temperature, skin contact with household pets.
- Cigarette smoke is a general irritant that can harm your baby. Do not let anyone smoke while in the same room as your baby.
Note: If skin irritation is persistent and upsetting, consult your Doctor immediately.
